Rummer Yawl

Rummer has come to HMS for a fairly major refurbishment, she has been shot blasted to remove the build up of anti-foul, now we can see what is beneath we can attend to any repairs that need doing, she can then be re-caulked and painted and antifouled. She is having the mast and booms refurbished and revarnished throughout.

With the recent exterior works completed the interior has had a quick update with new cushions. She is now being prepared for sale.

She is now being prepared for sale with Sanderman yacht company.

The rigging team have been working hard to get the masts put back up ready for her to be used and enjoyed for the summer.

She is sitting pretty in the water and waiting patiently for her mast and rigging to be put back on.

Her spreaders were very worse for wear so Sam has made a new set ready for fitting.

With the boat almost complete the attentions are turned to the rigging, Sam is in the process of making some new spreaders, he explained the process and drew a sketch on the bench to demonstrate.

Rummer was launched today and it was a hold your breath moment as she took on water before the planks expanded and absorbed some moisture.

We are currently working on finishing and varnishing of the spars ready for them to be raised.

Yesterday Rummer emerged from the boat shed after months of restoration and she looked beautiful in the sunshine.

The chain plates and stanchions have been fitted and now Nigel has masked up ready to put the final non slip deck paint on. She is nearing completion and will soon go outside for the rigging to be put back on.

It’s the turn of the engineering boys on Rummer today as they are fitting the chain plates which are where the shrouds are attached to the hull to support the mast.

She is now being prepared for sale with Sanderman yacht company.

The chrome has started going back on and wow!

The guardrails and deck fittings continue to be installed and she is looking fabulous.

Last week the temporary tent came down and Rummer emerged looking stunning with her new paint job, the team have spent the week servicing and refitting all the deck fittings, many of them original 1960s but still in good order.

We were able to have a sneaky peak under the tent at Rummer yesterday and wow she is looking fabulous, I can’t wait for the great unveil!

Rummer is still hiding under her tent but I did take a sneak peak and the paintwork is looking fabulous.

The time has come for the painting tent to be erected, the next time she emerges she will be transformed.

Great progress is being made on the hull painting and she is looking beautiful we are nearing the point of putting all the deck fittings back on.

The painting preparations are continuing and she is looking really great.

The boys have been finishing up with the repairs and sanding and we are very close to painting as most of the prep has been completed then we will be at the stage of putting the deck fittings back on.

The Southwold team have been making great progress this week and the varnishing and painting preparations are continuing. The beautiful lines of Rummer are starting to look fabulous again.

The team have been doing some great repairs on the beautiful woodwork on Rummer.

The team have been fixing the stanchions and making a beautiful shaped solid oak base for the winch to be mounted on.

The team have been working on fixing the new stanchion posts to the new deck.

Rummer has now had a coat of filler before the paint and non slip paint are applied.

With the repairs complete the marine ply decks have been laid and the cloth layer epoxied down.

Rummer August Update: Good progress has been made on Rummer, noggins have been cut and glued in so the new deck has a good base and the stanchions have something solid to screw down on.

Rummer August Update: With the decks removed and some of the timbers replaced or repaired Sam has been busy sanding.

Rummer August Update: With the decks removed this has exposed a number of rotten timbers which need repairing or replacing, Sam is doing a great job here he has made a half lap to support a structural knee which has been replaced.

Rummer July Update: The team have made great progress in stripping the decks off.

Rummer July Update: Unfortunately we started removing fittings from the deck only to discover the deck is rotten, rather than repairing sometimes it is better to strip it off and replace it, so this our next task.

Rummer June Update: She has now come into boat shed 1 for her works to commence. Nigel and James have been busy sanding and scrapping the hull ready for repairs.
