General Boatbuilder
We are looking for a practical, enthusiastic General Boatbuilder to join our workshop team. This is a varied, hands-on role involving the construction, repair, fitting out and finishing of traditional and modern boats. While experience in boatbuilding is advantageous, it is not essential. We welcome applicants from a wide range of trade backgrounds including carpentry, joinery, engineering, fabrication, mechanics, composites, or general manufacturing. If you have good practical skills, enjoy working with your hands, and are keen to learn, we can provide training in specialist boatbuilding techniques.
This is an opportunity to become part of a skilled team producing and restoring high-quality boats to an exceptional standard.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the construction, restoration and repair of traditional and modern boats.
- Carry out a range of workshop tasks including timber work, fitting out, assembly and finishing.
- Work with a variety of materials including timber, GRP (fibreglass), metals and composites.
- Undertake sanding, fairing, painting and finishing work to a high standard.
- Read and work from drawings, plans and work instructions where required.
- Safely operate a range of hand tools, power tools and workshop machinery.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.
- Work collaboratively with other members of the workshop team to deliver quality craftsmanship.
Requirements:
Essential
- Practical hands-on skills and a positive attitude to learning.
- Experience using hand and power tools in a workshop or trade environment.
- Good attention to detail and pride in producing quality work.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Reliable, motivated and willing to undertake a variety of tasks.
- Good problem-solving skills and a flexible approach to work.
Desirable:
- Previous experience in boatbuilding or the marine industry.
- Experience in carpentry, joinery, engineering, fabrication, mechanics, plumbing, composites or similar trades.
- Experience working with GRP, timber or metal fabrication.
- Painting, finishing or polishing experience.
- Ability to read technical drawings.

Boatbuilders
We are looking for full-time boatbuilders to come and join our team in both Southwold and Ipswich, there are positions available for all levels of experience. The candidates will need to show competence and experience in a variety of boatbuilding skills, from hull planking to fitting teak decks. They will have good knowledge and skill in all areas of joinery, and working on interiors and cabinet making, they will take pride in their work and have a good attention to detail and level of accuracy. They will be confident using fixed machinery and hand tools. They will be competent in all aspects of boat assembly and will be hard working and reliable with a reasonable knowledge of Health & safety. These are full-time positions; the rate of pay will be determined by the level of experience.
Salary £23,000-£28,000 plus twice-yearly bonus.
Painters & Finishers
Two full-time positions one based in Ipswich Haven Marina IP3 0EA and the other in Southwold IP18 6TA. Working on a variety of craft you will be responsible for the preparations and painting and finishing of the boats. This will include planning the prep work in an efficient manner, organising the materials required in advance for the project, filling, sanding, faring, masking and finally painting and varnishing to a very high standard. The candidates will take pride in their work and have a good attention to detail and level of accuracy. They will be competent in all aspects of boat finishing and will be hard working and reliable with a reasonable knowledge of Health & safety.
The rate of pay will be determined by the level of experience.
Salary £28,000-£31,000 plus twice-yearly bonus.
Marine Engineer
Two full-time positions, one based in Ipswich Haven Marina IP3 0EA and the other in Southwold IP18 6TA. From installing new marine equipment to repair and servicing of existing, the successful candidates will be working on a variety of craft including modern yachts, classic yachts, and commercial craft, they will be working on engines (inboard and outboard), gearboxes, stern gear, propellers, tank installations and hydraulics. They must be motivated, hardworking, and organised. Although the job is based in Ipswich/Southwold they may be required to travel to other boatyards, so a driving license is essential. The successful candidate will have good knowledge and experience, the rate of pay will be determined by this level of experience.
Salary £25,000-£28,000 plus twice-yearly bonus.
General Yard Hands
Two full-time positions one based in Ipswich Haven Marina IP3 0EA and the other in Southwold IP18 6TA. Working on a variety of tasks from washing off boats as they come out of the water, assisting with the launch and recovery from our slipway. Antifouling, valeting interiors, assisting other members of the team with various tasks, keeping the yard tidy and clear of hazards, this is an interesting and varied role. The candidate will be reliable and hardworking and will be keen to learn. They will demonstrate a good understanding of health and safety good practices.
£9.50 per hour.
