The future of Davey & Company London Ltd, the heritage boat-fittings manufacturer, is in safe hands following its recent acquisition by John Buckley, owner of Harbour Marine Services Ltd.
This seals the long-standing connection between the two companies, born of Harbour Marine’s specialism in restoring many Classic vessels including several Little Dunkirk Ships for which Davey’s traditionally-manufactured bronze fittings are essential.
It’s a proud moment for John Buckley, a life long investor in the marine industry, who is a passionate advocate for traditional skills to deliver quality work. “I have great respect for Davey & Co’s British made ethos and high quality product,” says Buckley. “My intention is to protect that, and create many more opportunities for Davey to be known as the ‘must-have’ quality fitting for traditional boat owners internationally.”
Davey and Co Ltd, established in 1885, is the leading British manufacturer of traditional boat fittings to boat-owners worldwide, still using many of the patterns and designs that were used in Victorian times. This results in authentic, high quality and covetable fittings that are perfect for classic boats and bring an elegantly traditional style to more modern vessels as well.
Davey’s Managing Director of 25 years, Peter Tracey, will be stepping down in the early autumn, and the business will continue to operate from its Colchester base whilst continuing to employ all existing staff. This will be under the leadership of Jeff Webber. Webber has over twenty years’ experience of the marine industry and has been brought in to deliver Buckley’s vision for the business.
Webber is excited by his appointment and states “This is a great opportunity and I look forward to taking up the reins from where Peter left off. Both John and I agree that British made philosophy of Davey and Co and quality products must be preserved.”
